Zachary Hampton running for Lethbridge City Council

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Zachary Hampton believes he has what it takes to break through his 31 competitors and land himself a seat on Lethbridge City Council.

He says division amongst the current council and throughout the community is the primary reason he wanted to run.

“We’ve had a lot of contentious issues over the last four years, from the SCS to the mask mandate, and just seeing our community become more divided as we seem to get further and further into the term, it was alarming for me, not only as a life-long resident but as a political science major.”

He told LNN that, despite his younger age, he already has plenty of applicable experience.

“I’ve worked in not-for-profits for the last nine years with various charities and churches in all kinds of different capacities from leadership roles to administrative roles, and also board work. In fact, I’ve served on the board of the [Island Lake Christian Retreat Centre] for the past seven years and was their youngest elected member in 62 years.”

According to Hampton, he says his educational and volunteer experience has taught him how to thoroughly research the issues and be able to connect with people.

Other top priorities for him are economic recovery for families and businesses, keeping taxes low, and community safety.

“There’s countless stories of people in Lethbridge and people I know, and a lot of people have experienced their bikes being stolen and property being damaged. I think that it would be a priority to try and begin to restore, probably, a bit more of the police budget that was cut.”

Prior to general election day on October 18, there will be three weekends of advance voting:

  • October 1, 2 – City Hall (Downtown)
  • October 8, 9, 10 – Exhibition Park drive-through (East)
