LETHBRIDGE, AB. — After trouncing the Hitmen 9-2 on Friday night in their season home opener, the Hurricanes travelled north hoping a rematch in Calgary on Sunday (Oct 3) afternoon, would provide another win. It did – a 4-1win.

As opposed to the Friday night game, the Hitmen were the first on the scoreboard, taking advantage of a powerplay just three minutes after puck drop.

The Canes’ weren’t able to even the score until the last four minutes in the frame. On a powerplay, Yegor Klavdiev tipped in his first of the season, coming off the assist from Chase Wheatcroft and Chase Pauls.

The period ended on a one all tie.

The middle twenty minutes of play were held to a single goal. Once again, it was off the stick of Hurricane Yegor Klavdiev, picking up a cross ice assisted by Alex Thacker and Logan McCutcheon.

Just two minutes after the tie breaking goal, the Canes’ Logan Wormald and Hitman Matthew Sutter were both tapped for unsportsmanlike conduction.

As the clock ran out on the second frame, the Canes were leading 2-1.

When the puck dropped for the last 20, the Hurricanes had the man advantage. Logan Barlage took just over two minutes to tip in another goal, with the assist from Joe Arntsen and Nolan Bentham.

It wasn’t until the last two minutes of the game until another goal materialized. Chase Wheatcroft took the assist from Ty Nash and Joe Arntsen, to plant his second goal of the season and put their team ahead by three goals.

The Hitmen out shot Lethbridge 41 to 36 but, the game ended with a 4-1 score in favour of the Canes, who now have two successive wins under their skates.

The Canes’ next gam is Wednesday (Oct 6) night at the Enmax, as the team hosts Edmonton.
