Hurricanes launch Captain’s Corner initiative

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Two former captains of the Lethbridge Hurricanes have helped to introduce the Captain’s Corner for this WHL season.

Fans can nominate individuals and families (up to four people) to sit in the Hurricanes Captain’s Corner at an upcoming home game at the ENMAX Centre.

Former captains Tyler Wong and Dino Kambeitz reached out to the club wishing to each donate a pair of season tickets for the community.

Wong was drafted in the fifth round (101st overall) of the 2011 WHL Prospects Draft and spent his entire league career with the Hurricanes. He said, “throughout my five years in Lethbridge I saw first hand the joy and sense of pride people received from cheering on the Hurricanes.”

“I see this as a way to possibly bless someone with that same opportunity to go and enjoy themselves at a game. My time in Lethbridge was something I will cherish forever and I am very grateful for the opportunity I have to give back to that community.”

Following his time with the WHL club, Wong played for the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League for two seasons and recorded the Vegas Golden Knights’ first ever goal and hat trick in preseason play against the Vancouver Canucks. Wong is in his third season with the Kunlun red Star in the KHL, where has scored 24 goals and dished out 28 assists in 116 games.

Kambeitz is originally from Parker, Colorado. His father Jim is from Bow Island and is a former WHL player. Acquired from Victoria before the start of the 2019-2020 season, Kambeitz swiftly made an impact on and off the ice. Kambeitz said Lethbridge gave him a strong sense of community.

He remarked that he “wanted to donate season tickets to the community because they did so much for me while I was there playing. I met so many great people that if I’m able to help them get to games and support our team I’m happy to do so.”

This past summer, Kambeitz signed a one-year AHL/ECHL deal with the Bakersfield Condors.
