LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Former Lethbridge West MLA, Clint Dunford has passed at the age of 78.

Dunford was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1993 and re-elected to a fourth term in November of 2004. He held the seat until 2008 and did not seek re-election that year.

During his time in the legislature, Dunford held positions as Minister of Alberta Advanced Education and Career Development, Minister of Alberta Human Resources and Employment and Minister of Economic Development, and he was responsible for the Personnel Administration Office, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, Workers Compensation Board, and Appeals Commission for Alberta Workers Compensation.

Dunford held a bachelor’s degree, majoring in economics, from the University of Calgary and before entering politics worked in management at Dresser Clark Industries and subsequently was President and Owner of CED Consulting Ltd. in Lethbridge.

The former MLA was born in Manitoba and raised in Saskatchewan and continued to live in Lethbridge with his wife when he retired from politics. In November of 2005, while still sitting in the Legislature, Dunford was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. He continued to work while undergoing cancer treatment in Edmonton, having a stem cell transplant in April 2006.

Mayor Chris Spearman offered his condolences to the family.

“On behalf of Lethbridge City Council, I would like to express our sincere sympathy on the passing of former MLA Clint Dunford to his wife Gwen and his family. Clint was a dedicated MLA for Lethbridge West for 15 years, working closely with Lethbridge City Council, school boards and countless community organizations. He was proud of Lethbridge and was an enthusiastic advocate for our city.”

“He was actively involved in our community, an advocate for seniors and worked closely with the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce. In retirement, Clint was an avid fan of the Lethbridge Bulls baseball team and continued to attend community events in our city.”

“Clint Dunford will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by myself and many others throughout our city.”
