10 COVID deaths reported in South Zone this weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past three days.

In that time, 2,181 people tested positive for a daily average of 727. To date, there have been 316,433 positive tests in Alberta. Of those, 12,302 are active while 301,155 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 191 cases were confirmed over the last three days, or about 64 per day. That includes 66 positive tests in Lethbridge this weekend and 45 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections fell by 163 across the region since our story on Friday.

Over the past three days, 29 Albertans died from COVID with 10 each in the South and Central Zones, four in the Edmonton Zone, three in the North Zone, and two in the Calgary Zone. To date, 2,976 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for five residents of Medicine Hat, two from Cardston County, and one each in Brooks, Lethbridge County, and the M.D. of Taber.

Provincially, 981 patients are currently hospitalized including 225 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 117,799 cases, 3,104 active
    • 228 in hospital, 64 in ICU
    • 819 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 99,815 cases, 2,913 active
    • 304 in hospital, 101 in ICU
    • 1,254 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 42,492 cases, 2,576 active
    • 155 in hospital, 16 in ICU
    • 325 deaths (three new)
  • Central Zone – 34,792 cases, 2,393 active
    • 178 in hospital, 20 in ICU
    • 331 deaths (10 new)
  • South Zone – 21,484 cases, 1,300 active
    • 116 in hospital, 24 in ICU
    • 247 deaths (10 new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past three days:

  • Lethbridge – 6,649 cases (66 new), 366 active, 50 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,427 cases (31 new), 134 active, five deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,200 cases (20 new), 129 active, 17 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,015 cases (15 new), 105 active, 28 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,304 cases (45 new), 270 active, 73 deaths (five new)
  • Brooks – 2,057 cases (four new), 60 active, 22 deaths (one new)
  • Lethbridge County – 1,820 cases (23 new), 104 active, 17 deaths (one new)
  • Cardston County – 1,697 cases (eight new), 107 active, 31 deaths (two new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,181 cases (seven new), 112 active, 12 deaths (one new)
  • Cypress County – 815 cases (five new), 46 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 705 cases (10 new), 56 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 586 cases (four new), 41 active, nine deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 509 cases (seven new), 44 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 440 cases (four new), 36 active, six deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 314 cases, 27 active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 142 cases (four new), 12 active, one death
  • Waterton – Seven cases, zero active, zero deaths
