Over 3,000 Albertans have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

786 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 317,750. Of those, 10,824 cases are active while 303,920 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 87 people tested positive with 20 in Lethbridge and 15 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections across the region fell by 39.

Since yesterday’s update, 18 Albertans died from COVID including seven in the North Zone, four each in the Calgary and Central Zones, two in the South Zone, and one in the Edmonton Zone. To date, 3,006 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of Medicine Hat and Brooks.

Provincially, 928 patients are hospitalized including 203 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 118,159 cases, 2,773 active
    • 213 in hospital, 54 in ICU
    • 825 deaths (four new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 100,147 cases, 2,603 active
    • 278 in hospital, 93 in ICU
    • 1,260 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 42,778 cases, 2,289 active
    • 141 in hospital, 14 in ICU
    • 334 deaths (seven new)
  • Central Zone – 34,995 cases, 2,011 active
    • 174 in hospital, 20 in ICU
    • 338 deaths (four new)
  • South Zone – 21,623 cases, 1,136 active
    • 122 in hospital, 22 in ICU
    • 249 deaths (two new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past three days:

  • Lethbridge – 6,687 cases (20 new), 335 active, 50 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,440 cases (nine new), 123 active, five deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,210 cases (three new), 109 active, 17 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,030 cases (eight new), 104 active, 28 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,330 cases (15 new), 232 active, 74 deaths (one new)
  • Brooks – 2,064 cases (six new), 46 active, 23 deaths (one new)
  • Lethbridge County – 1,838 cases (nine new), 101 active, 17 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,708 cases (nine new), 93 active, 31 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,188 cases (three new), 93 active, 12 deaths
  • Cypress County – 814 cases, 31 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 714 cases (five new), 55 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 589 cases (three new), 38 active, nine deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 512 cases (two new), 34 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 446 cases (five new), 34 active, six deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 322 cases (five new), 22 active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 147 cases (five new), 14 active, one death
  • Waterton – Seven cases, zero active, zero deaths
