Blood Tribe enacts two COVID vaccination policies

STANDOFF, AB – Members of the Blood Tribe will need to be aware of a pair of policies surrounding COVID-19 vaccinations on the local First Nation.

One concerns employees of the reserve’s administration while the other impacts anyone attending certain facilities.

On September 27, it was announced that all Blood Tribe Administration employees would need to submit proof of vaccination by October 30, 2021, or “valid reasons” for not getting immunized.

Senior Executive Officer Rick Soup says overall compliance thus far has been favourable.

As well, a new policy will be in effect starting November 1 for those attending facilities managed by Blood Tribe Parks and Recreation.

When it comes into effect, those aged 18 or older will need to provide proof of vaccination while those between the ages of 12 and 17 can submit a negative COVID-19 test result that was completed within the past 72 hours.

Children under the age of 12 are not required to give proof of vaccination or negative test.

Blood Tribe members who do not yet have the provincial proof of vaccination QR code can get printed cards from Blood Tribe Family and Community Support Services and the Blood Tribe Recreation and Parks Departments.

“We hope more people make a stronger effort to receive the vaccines,” said Soup. “The Blood Reserve has resources available to our members with our frontline workers addressing this emergency round the clock. Our leadership felt the need to continue in strengthening our efforts to protect our community.”

The First Nation is currently subject to several public health measures including a 9:00 pm to 6:00 am curfew.
