LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

Since yesterday’s update, 770 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 318,520. Of those, 10,434 cases are active while 305,072 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 88 people tested positive with 40 in Lethbridge and 12 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections across the region decreased by 25.

Since yesterday’s update, eight Albertans died from COVID including four in the Central Zone, three in the North Zone, and one in the Calgary Zone. To date, 3,014 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 912 patients are currently hospitalized in including 201 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says she has received many questions from pregnant women or women who are looking to become pregnant about whether or not COVID-19 vaccines will be safe for them.

“Studies done on both male and fertility outcomes after vaccine have shown no negative consequences. Vaccines are also recommended for anyone who is pregnant or nursing as the risk of severe outcomes of COVID infections in pregnant women has increased with variants of concern.”

She knows that there are still a lot of questions around the topic of vaccines and pregnancy, so Hinshaw and other physicians will host a town hall meeting sometime next week to answer questions.

Dr. Hinshaw will Tweet out a registration link soon.
