LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are eagerly anticipating one of their special games this holiday season.

Their matchup against the Brandon Wheat Kings on December 3 will also be the 25th annual Canadian Tire Teddy and Toque Toss event at the ENMAX Centre. The initiative is something done across the Western Hockey League (WHL) during the holiday season, with teddy bears and toques tossed onto the ice donated to local organizations.

For Lethbridge this year, donations collected will go to organizations including the Chinook Regional Hospital, Lethbridge Family Services, Blood Tribe Emergency Services and many more.

In addition to being the 25th anniversary, this year also marks the 14th anniversary of the record-setting 2007 toss. That year, 5,202 fans at the ENMAX Centre threw 21,905 bears onto the ice, setting a Hurricanes team record.

The last toss was held in 2019 and Oliver Okuliar sent thousands of bears and toques flying when he scored the Teddy Toss Goal at 9:57 in the first period. The special initiative originated in 1993 at a Kamloops Blazers game before being adopted worldwide two years later.

On December 3, fans attending the Hurricanes-Wheat Kings matchup are encouraged to bring stuffed animals and toques individually wrapped in clear plastic bags for health and sanitary reasons.
