City of Lethbridge releases official municipal election results

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The results of the 2021 municipal elections in Lethbridge have been officially verified.

A total of 28,348 people cast their ballots, meaning turnout this year was 34.88 per cent.

The winners are all the same as what had been projected in the unofficial count.

Blaine Hyggen will become Lethbridge’s next mayor following Monday’s swearing-in ceremony, having secured 11,973 votes or 42.79 per cent.

Bridget Mearns came in at second place with 11,465 votes or 40.97 per cent.

The next crop of city councillors are as follows:

• Rajko Dodic – 7.32 per cent
• Belinda Crowson – 6.51 per cent
• Jenn Schmidt-Rempel – 6.34 per cent
• Ryan Parker – 6.22 per cent
• John Middleton-Hope – 6.09 per cent
• Mark Campbell – 5.53 per cent
• Jeff Carlson – 5.38 per cent
• Nick Paladino – 4.8 per cent

Residents of Lethbridge were also asked two ballot questions.

The first, about creating a ward system to elect city councillors starting in 2025 received 55.69 per cent support.

In the other, 60.41 per cent said yes to approving plans to build a third bridge prior to 2030.

The swearing-in ceremony starts at 1:30 pm on Monday, October 25. The event is NOT open to the public. Members of the public wishing to watch can view the live stream on the City of Lethbridge’s YouTube page.
