Starting Monday, two vaccine shots will be required for Restrictions Exemption Program

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Anyone looking to attend a business, venue, or service provider that requires proof of vaccination will need to have both of their COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Alberta Government says, starting October 25, anyone aged 12 or older will need to show that they have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior.

When the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP) first came into effect on September 20, the requirement was that a person needed to have one shot.

Those who are not yet fully vaccinated can still submit a privately-paid negative COVID-19 test that was completed within 72 hours or a valid proof of medical exemption.

Health Minister Jason Copping says, since the REP started, more than 465,000 first and second doses have been administered.

“The rising vaccination rates combined with our public health measures are helping to drive down the number of new and active cases and relieve the pressure on our healthcare system. I would like to thank every Albertan who has been vaccinated and is following the public health measures. Your actions are having a clear impact.”

Businesses that are subject to these public health measures can either choose to implement the REP or operate at a reduced capacity but not have to check immunization status.

You can get your vaccination records in the form of a scannable QR code on your smart device here. Alternatively, you can go to a local registry agent’s office or call 811 to request that the QR code be printed off.

As of November 15, the province says QR codes will be the only valid way of providing proof of vaccination.
