Manslaughter charge stayed against Lethbridge man

Oct 26, 2021 | 11:37 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A major update in the court proceedings for a man who had been charged in connection with the death of a person from Lethbridge.

In Lethbridge Court of Queen’s Bench last week, the charge of manslaughter against 38-year-old Jason James Crane Chief was stayed.

Essentially, it means that the crown did not believe it had sufficient evidence to prove that he was guilty.

It does not necessarily mean that Crance Chief is in the clear. Should additional evidence come forward, lawyers can still bring the matter back.

In late April, 2020, LPS investigated the “suspicious death” of a 43-year-old man whose body was discovered in an apartment on the 1200 block of 4 Ave South.

The co-accused, 34-year-old Justin Robert White Cow, plead guilty to manslaughter last May and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
