AHS reports two COVID deaths in Lethbridge, but only 14 new cases

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

531 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 322,386. Of those, 8,387 cases are active while 310,914 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 53 people tested positive with 14 of those coming from Lethbridge.

Active infections in the region fell by 46.

Since yesterday’s update, 12 Albertans died from COVID with four in the Edmonton Zone, three in the South Zone, two each in the Central and North Zones, and one in the Calgary Zone. To date, 3,085 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of North Lethbridge, South Lethbridge, and Lethbridge County.

Provincially, 779 patients are currently hospitalized including 185 who have been admitted to intensive care.

While approximately 13.2 per cent of eligible Albertans have no COVID-19 vaccine protection, those who are unvaccinated made up 60.11 per cent of new cases, 61.25 per cent of currently-active cases, and 71.12 per cent of those who are in hospital with COVID-19.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 119,353 cases, 2,162 active
    • 176 in hospital, 49 in ICU
    • 830 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 101,140 cases, 1,945 active
    • 249 in hospital, 86 in ICU
    • 1,282 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 43,777 cases, 1,747 active
    • 105 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 352 deaths (two new)
  • Central Zone – 35,942 cases, 1,645 active
    • 161 in hospital, 19 in ICU
    • 357 deaths (two new)
  • South Zone – 22,127 cases, 882 active
    • 88 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 264 deaths (three new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the last day:

  • Lethbridge – 6,856 cases (14 new), 289 active, 57 deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 2,509 cases (four new), 117 active, six deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,253 cases (seven new), 80 active, 19 deaths (one new)
    • South Lethbridge – 2,087 cases (three new), 93 active, 32 deaths (one new)
  • Medicine Hat – 4,409 cases (six new), 157 active, 75 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,073 cases (one new), 21 active, 23 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,887 cases (three new), 94 active, 18 deaths (one new)
  • Cardston County – 1,758 cases (eight new), 71 active, 35 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,215 cases (three new), 49 active, 13 deaths
  • Cypress County – 827 cases (four new), 20 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 742 cases (two new), 48 active, four deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 609 cases (three new), 30 active, nine deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 522 cases (two new), 22 active, six deaths
