Blue-green algae advisories ended in several Southern Alberta water bodies

Nov 1, 2021 | 3:47 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you jump in a body of water right now, pneumonia would probably be a top concern, but hey, at least there isn’t any algae.

Alberta Health Services has lifted the blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) bloom advisories that had been in effect for a couple of months now.

That includes Reesor Lake in Cypress Hills Provincial Park, the Milk River Ridge Reservoir, Ridge Park Beach in the County of Warner, Acadia Valley Reservoir, and the Acadia Dam Campground.

Recent cold weather has cooled temperatures to the point that blue-green algae is no longer a health concern.

Still, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink untreated water directly from any recreational body of water.
