City of Iqaluit says water meets health standards but residents still can’t drink it

IQALUIT — City officials say Iqaluit’s drinking water meets national standards, but residents can’t consume it until Nunavut’s chief public health officer says it’s OK.
Chief administrative officer Amy Elgersma says the city and engineers are working on a certification letter saying the water meets health guidelines.
After that, chief public health officer, Dr. Michael Patterson, will need to review that letter and determine whether to lift a do-not-consume order.
The city has extended its state of emergency until the order is lifted.
