LETHBRIDGE, AB. — After a 7-0 loss to Winnipeg on Saturday night, the Hurricanes were looking for redemption in Edmonton Tuesday night. However, it wasn’t to be.

The Oil Kings set the tone just 53-seconds into the first period, with Simon Kubicek making a single-handed shot on the Canes’ net and putting Edmonton on the scoreboard.

Over the next five minutes, the Canes worked to kill off several penalties. Unfortunately, Kubicek wasn’t finished with the puck and took advantage of a power play opportunity at the 7:00 mark, giving his team a 2-0 lead.

Before the period ended, Jakub Demek and Carson Latimer landed two more goals, giving the Oil Kings a 4-0 lead before the buzzer ended the first period.

As tough as the first 20-minutes were for the Canes, the next 20 wouldn’t get any better. Once again, the Kings lobbed one through the pipes within seconds of the puck drop, taking their lead to 5-0. Josh Williams made it 6-0 a few minutes later.

Before the 7:00 mark, the Canes racked up two more penalties. Logan Barlage and Edmonton’s Simon Kubicek were each docked a five-minute major fighting penalty, while Alex Cotton was tapped for roughing.

With three minutes remaining in the frame, Edmonton’s Kobe Verbicky was assisted to his first goal of the season. The period ended with a 7-0 lead for Edmonton.

The Hurricanes were able to keep Edmonton players from scoring in the final frame but, were unable to put up a single goal of their own. Lethbridge was 0/3 on the power play and the team was outshot 36-28 by the Oil Kings. The Canes also logged 17 penalty minutes.

The next game for the Canes will be Friday (Nov 5) at 7:0-pm, when the team hosts the Moose Jaw Warriors.
