SWIFT CURRENT, SASK. — It has not been a good weekend for the Hurricanes. After a 4-1 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors in Lethbridge Friday night, the Canes post another loss Saturday night – a 4-1 in Swift Current.

Lethbridge worked to get the action started on the right note and five minutes into the game Captain Joe Arntsen took a pass from Jett Jones, to plant the first goal of the game, giving the Canes a 1-0 lead. From there, the wheels came off the bus. In a penalty-free first period, the Broncos answered with goals at 9:51 and another from Mathew Ward at 15:32. The first 20 minutes of play ended with Swift Current leading 2-1.

The second frame saw the first goal come off the stick Mathew Ward at the 6:00-minute mark. Just six minutes later, an interference call on Bronco Rylan Thiessen left his team shorthanded but, it didn’t have much effect. Raphael Pelletier moved on the Hurricanes net, grabbing a pass from Mathew Ward and taking the score to 4-1 for the host team.

At 16:32, the Broncos Chase Lacombe was sent to the box on a holding penalty, opening a power play opportunity for the Canes, as Jett Jones landed his third goal of the season. The action continued but, this time it was Josh Filmon for the Broncos on the Canes net.

The first 40 minutes of play charted two minor penalties for the Broncos and a 5-2 lead.

A game that had been short on penalties saw the final frame open with two. Bronco Cole Nagy was tapped at 2:40 for tripping and a minute later Hurricane Jett Jones was set off the ice for hooking.

The final two goals of the game didn’t come until the last minute and a half of play and both came off Swift Current sticks. At 18:25, Rylan Gould made it six goals for Swift Current and 30 seconds later, Kayden Sadhra-Kang also found the back of the Canes’ net.

Swift Current outshot Lethbridge 27-23 to take the game 7-2.

After 12 games, the Hurricanes are 5-7-0-0 on the season and have dropped to fifth spot on the Eastern Conference Wild Card. Lethbridge visits Winnipeg on Wednesday, Nov 10.
