Active COVID cases fall below 500 in South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics from the past two days.

In that time, 727 people tested positive for a daily average of 363. Currently, 5,521 cases are active while 322,106 people have recovered.

For the South Zone, 166 cases were confirmed over the past two days, or 83 per day. This includes 14 in Lethbridge and 10 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections across the region have fallen by 32 over the past pair of days, now resting at just under 500.

Since Monday’s update, 16 Albertans died from COVID with six in the Central Zone, four in the Edmonton Zone, three in the South Zone, two in the North Zone, and one in the Calgary Zone. To date, 3,204 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of Cardston County, the M.D. of Pincher Creek, and Fort Macleod.

Provincially, 516 patients are currently hospitalized including 100 who have been admitted to intensive care.

  • Calgary Zone – 121,966 cases, 1,827 active
    • 119 in hospital, 23 in ICU
    • 846 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 102,939 cases, 1,221 active
    • 157 in hospital, 47 in ICU
    • 1,305 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 45,546 cases, 1,082 active
    • 69 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 381 deaths (two new)
  • Central Zone – 37,458 cases, 897 active
    • 115 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 386 deaths (six new)
  • South Zone – 22,878 cases, 489 active
    • 56 in hospital, 15 in ICU
    • 286 deaths (three new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past two days:

  • Lethbridge – 7,077 cases (14 new), 152 active, 62 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,583 cases (one new), 57 active, eight deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,339 cases (eight new), 54 active, 22 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,148 cases (five new), 41 active, 32 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,501 cases (10 new), 61 active, 78 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,093 cases (two new), 12 active, 24 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,958 cases (six new), 45 active, 19 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,834 cases (13 new), 34 active, 39 deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,279 cases (six new), 52 active, 16 deaths
  • Cypress County – 845 cases, eight active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 779 cases, 27 active, four deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 646 cases (three new), 19 active, 11 deaths (one new)
  • Fort Macleod – 569 cases (seven new), 30 active, seven deaths (one new)
  • County of Newell – 498 cases, 25 active, eight deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 343 cases (one new), five active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 168 cases (two new), five active, one death
  • Waterton – Seven cases, zero active, zero deaths
