Sohil Bindra trial on pause, all four complainants’ testimonies heard

After the two-week trial of Lethbridge’s Sohil Bindra was set to conclude Friday, it will now be on pause for one week.

In the first of three trials for Bindra, it has been adjourned until Monday, November 29 at 11:00 am to decide what information will be allowed into the trial for similar fact evidence.

Bindra, who was 33-years-old when he was charged with sexual assault and housebreaking, has had six separate complainants come forward about his alleged sex-related actions towards them spanning over the last four years.

The court has heard testimonies for all complainants in the first trial, hearing four separate instances where Bindra had allegedly sexually assaulted four women.

There will be two different trials in the coming months for the alleged victims five and six.

In the testimony of complainants one and two, the court was told a story of how Bindra allegedly met two women at a bar on February 7 and 8, 2020.

A short time later, after the 18-year-old woman began feeling unwell, Bindra drove home the other friend and allegedly tried to sexually assault her. He then allegedly came back into the home where the 18-year-old was sleeping and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Complainants three and four have different stories from years prior.

It’s alleged that complainant three was at a Christmas party in 2018 when she was approached by a man named “Tony.” She needed a place to stay that night and Tony had a spare bedroom she could sleep in.

She took up Tony on his offer and was then allegedly sexually assaulted by him. She then found out that Tony’s real name was Sohil Bindra.

Complainant four tells a different story of when she and her friends were at a bar in the spring of 2018 when she started not feeling well and was approached by a man named “Tony B.”

She apparently knew him from the gym at the time and was a familiar face. The woman then found herself in a car with no recollection of how she got there, and a man was sexually assaulting her who she believes was Tony B. “Tony B” was identified to be Sohil Bindra.

The judge will give his ruling on November 29 about what information he will allow into his final assessment of the trial and how it affects the verdict. For now, the trial is on pause until then.
