COVID cases remain low in South Zone this week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the four days.

Note: Due to lower COVID-19 case counts in recent weeks, LNN will only be reporting COVID numbers twice per week on Mondays and Fridays. Should the situation change, we will go back to daily reporting.

In the past four days, there were a total of 1,452 cases confirmed across the province for a daily average of 363. To date, there have been 334,203 cases in Alberta.

5,017 infections are active while 325,951 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, there were 115 positive tests over the last four days or approximately 29 per day. 55 people in Lethbridge (13.75/day) and 21 in Medicine Hat (5.25/day) contracted COVID.

Active infections across the region fell by 33.

Since Monday’s update, 18 Albertans died from COVID for a daily average of 4.5. That includes five fatalities in the North Zone, two each in the Calgary, Central, and Edmonton Zones, and one in the South Zone. To date, 3,235 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a resident of Cardston County.

Provincially, 455 patients are currently hospitalized including 90 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 123,226 cases, 1,874 active
    • 94 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 850 deaths (four new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 103,700 cases, 1,163 active
    • 146 in hospital, 43 in ICU
    • 1,312 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 46,161 cases, 852 active
    • 65 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 389 deaths (five new)
  • Central Zone – 37,950 cases, 716 active
    • 95 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 396 deaths (four new)
  • South Zone – 23,126 cases, 409 active
    • 55 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 288 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past four days:

  • Lethbridge – 7,168 cases (55 new), 143 active, 62 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,626 cases (19 new), 59 active, eight deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,363 cases (14 new), 48 active, 22 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,172 cases (22 new), 36 active, 32 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,548 cases (21 new), 72 active, 78 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,097 cases (one new), eight active, 24 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,969 cases (five new), 34 active, 19 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,856 cases (12 new), 30 active, 40 deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,294 cases (seven new), 33 active, 17 deaths
  • Cypress County – 857 cases (nine new), 12 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 789 cases (five new), 16 active, four deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 650 cases (one new), nine active, 11 deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 574 cases (one new), 16 active, seven deaths
  • County of Newell – 509 cases (seven new), 14 active, eight deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 344 cases, two active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 180 cases (one new), 14 active, one death
  • Waterton – Seven cases, zero active, zero deaths
