Restrictions Exemption Program updated for ski hills

Nov 26, 2021 | 11:18 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta’s Restrictions Exemption Program (REP) has been updated for ski hills.

Starting November 29, ski hill operators in the province can operate outdoor activities without implementing the program, and trade shows can opt out of the REP.

Ski hill operators can implement the REP for indoor areas to permit indoor dining and other indoor activities. The province has noted that if they are participating in the program, they are not required to adhere to physical distancing requirement for enclosed gondolas and chairlifts, but indoor masking remains in effect for those areas.

Minister of Health Jason Copping said, “these changes maintain the intent of the REP – to keep Albertans safe – while reflecting what we’ve heard for businesses and venues to operate effectively.”

“We continue to follow the evidence and update the guidance so the program can reduce the spread of COVID-19 in ways that make sense for Albertans.”

Paid-entry markets and trade shows, including artisan and craft fairs and holiday markets, will be able to take part in the REP. The COVID-19 proof of vaccination program allows eligible businesses, venues and services to be exempt from capacity, physical distancing and other operating restrictions. Businesses that implement the REP must continue to follow mandatory indoor masking requirements.
