LETHBRIDGE, AB – A number of local groups have received grants from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta.

Back on November 5, the foundation marked Random Act of Kindness Day (RAK Day) and encouraged residents to perform random kind acts across the region. Following up on that is Giving Tuesday, a global movement that promotes philanthropy, which takes place today (Nov. 30).

Participants in the Random Act of Kindness Day were also encouraged to share their kind acts with the foundation. Those were then entered into a random draw for a chance to award a $500 Kindness Grant to the local CRA-registered charity of the winner’s choosing.

The recipients of the $500 grants are as follows:

  • Covenant Health Foundation – St. Michaels’ Health Centre
  • Green Acres Foundation – Piyami Lodge Picture Butte
  • Lethbridge and District Humane Society
  • Lethbridge Food Bank
  • Lethbridge Soup Kitchen
  • Milo Library
  • Palliser School Division – Sunnyside School
  • Town of Claresholm – Claresholm Arts Society
  • Town of Picture Butte – Firefighters Association
  • YWCA Harbour House

The foundation’s Executive Director Charleen Davidson said, “we know that kind acts really can change the world.”

“Whether you’re the one performing the kind act or the recipient of a kind act, that one small act really does brighten your day. We thank everyone who participated in this year’s Random Act of Kindness Day, and congratulate all of the recipients of Kindness Grants.”
