COVID continues its downward trend in Alberta & South Zone this week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the past four days.

Note: Due to lower COVID-19 case counts in recent weeks, LNN will only be reporting COVID numbers twice per week on Mondays and Fridays. Should the situation change, we will go back to daily reporting.

Over the last four days, 1,248 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of 312. To date, there have been 338,428 positive tests in Alberta.

4,059 cases are currently active while 331,097 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 65 people contracted COVID with 22 of those coming from Lethbridge. Those numbers equate to just over 16 per day in the South Zone and 5.5 for the city.

Active infections across the region fell by 63.

Since Monday’s update, nine Albertans died from COVID with three each in the Edmonton and Central Zones, two in the Calgary Zone, and one in the North Zone. To date, 3,272 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 367 patients are currently hospitalized including 71 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 124,967 cases, 1,672 active
    • 107 in hospital, 18 in ICU
    • 854 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 104,891 cases, 1,172 active
    • 121 in hospital, 37 in ICU
    • 1,322 deaths (three new)
  • North Zone – 46,656 cases, 457 active
    • 43 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 402 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 38,507 cases, 520 active
    • 69 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 405 deaths (three new)
  • South Zone – 23,369 cases, 234 active
    • 27 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 289 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past four days:

  • Lethbridge – 7,244 cases (22 new), 84 active, 62 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,649 cases (eight new), 26 active, eight deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,383 cases (five new), 22 active, 22 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,205 cases (nine new), 36 active, 32 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 4,603 cases (eight new), 50 active, 78 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,103 cases (two new), five active, 24 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,006 cases (14 new), 33 active, 20 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,872 cases (eight new), 13 active, 40 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,302 cases, nine active, 17 deaths
  • Cypress County – 869 cases (five new), 100 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 795 cases (one new), nine active, four deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 658 cases (one new), six active, 11 deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 576 cases, one active, seven deaths
  • County of Newell – 519 cases (four new), eight active, eight deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 345 cases, one active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 183 cases, three active, one death
  • Waterton – Eight cases, zero active, zero deaths
