Rebels down Hurricanes 3-2 in OT

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — After a 3-2 shootout win Wednesday night, the Hurricanes were looking for another win. However, this time, the 3-2 win went to Red Deer.

The first 20-minutes of play produced a penalty against the Canes’ Logan Barlage for hooking at 5:00 and it was the Rebels who were first on the board, at 6:26, as Arshdeep Bains and his crew took advantage of a power play.

From there, goals alternated with penalties. Rebels’ Jace Isley logged a kneeing penalty at 11:04. Two minutes later, Noah Boyko logged his ninth goal of the season on a power play to tie the game. At the 17:29 mark, Alex Thacker added an unassisted goal, giving the Canes a 2-1 lead.

In the final minutes of play, Canes’ winger Tristan Zandee skated to the box for a Delay of Game.

The second period offered up a single goal and a penalty. Just over six minutes into play, Noah Boyko skated off to the penalty box for slashing.

At the mid-point of the frame the Rebels’ Dallon Melin took an assist from Blake Gustafson to tie the game 2-2, which is where the score remained at the buzzer.

The final 40 minutes of play provided a stream of penalties. It began with Rebels players Trey Patterson and Ben Kin for Holding and Hooking. At the 8:12 minute mark, the Hurricanes took over and racked up penalty kill minutes. Logan Barlage took the first penalty for Roughing. At 15:04, Trevor Thruston was tapped for Roughing and at 17:20, Logan Barlage was in the box for Tripping.

The final buzzer went on the 2-2 tie and the game went to over-time. At 4:49, the Rebels Kalen Lind made an unassisted goal, giving his team a 3-2 win.

The Hurricanes are 10-11-2-0 on the season. The team’s next game is Friday, Dec. 17, when they host Medicine Hat.
