LETHBRIDGE, AB – ***UPDATE — School will continue as normal on Wednesday at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. Police have determined there is no evidence to suggest an immediate threat. This afternoon, extracurricular sports will also continue as per usual at the school.

Story background:

One of Lethbridge’s largest high schools has been evacuated.

In a statement from the Lethbridge School Division, it was reported that staff and students at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) were being evacuated and will remain at home for the rest of the day.

Students who walk or drive will be asked to leave the school. Those who take the bus or would be waiting for a ride will be kept in classrooms until their ride arrives.

“Once individuals have evacuated the building, the school administration and Division office will be working with police to ensure the school is safe. Safety is at the forefront of decision making, and we feel this precautionary measure is necessary.”

Tuesday morning, a similar incident was reported at Winston Churchill on the city’s north side.

LPS indicates the investigation is ongoing to determine the veracity of the threats and whether there is any connection to the incident at Winston Churchill High School, which was evacuated this morning for a similar reason.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say no further information will be released at this time.
