Equipment malfunction leads to odorous smells in North Lethbridge
LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents in north Lethbridge may smell something a little funky.
The City of Lethbridge stated that on October 27, the Wastewater Treatment Plant suffered a digester process upset. This resulted in odorous material being deposited into the plant lagoons located behind the Peenaquim ball diamonds.
Staff have been taking all steps to reduce odours being generated at the lagoons, including enhanced daily lagoon and digester monitoring, as well as a number of other strategies that are being deployed to reprocess, chemically treat and get rid of the odorous material.
A notice from the city reads, “residents should expect a general reduction in odours during the winter months as the lagoons freeze over. In the spring, the odours may return but should be less intense.”
