Canadians down Russia 6-4 in front of sparse crowd in world pre-tournament game
EDMONTON — It didn’t have the atmosphere of Canada-Russia classics of days past. And it certainly wasn’t as competitive as we’d expect when Canada and Russia face each other on the ice.
Canada scored four first-period goals in front of a sparse gathering of fans at Rogers Place on Thursday, en route to a 6-4 win over the Russians in World Junior Hockey Championship pre-tournament play.
Summit Series this was not, as this game was not as close as the score might indicate.
Mason McTavish, a 2021 first-round pick of the Anaheim Ducks, scored twice and added an assist to pace the Canadians. His linemate, Columbus Blue Jackets’ draft pick Kent Johnson, had a goal and an assist.
