LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Taber Police Service is investigating a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

On December 22, 2021, at about 3:30 pm, police received a 911 call of a person being struck by a truck in the 5900 block of 48th Street.

EMS attended the scene and police revealed that a 52-year-old Taber man had been standing beside a parked van on the east side of the road talking to a person when a southbound black truck with a white topper drove left of center, towards the victim and struck him.

The vehicle then fled saying “the driver of the black truck then failed to remain at the scene,” the release reads.

“Taber Police gathered information that the suspect was headed to Lethbridge, and Coaldale RCMP were contacted to intercept. A short time later, Coaldale RCMP stated they had the suspect in custody and were transporting him back to Taber Police,” the police Facebook post states.

The suspect is a 49-year-old man from Lethbridge.

RCMP in Calgary was contacted and attended to assist Taber Police in the investigation.

The suspect remains in police custody pending a judicial interim release. As a result, the name of the suspect will not be released at this time.

Police say the victim in the collision was transported directly to Lethbridge Regional Hospital and then further to Calgary in serious but stable condition.

Further information will be released once the charges are sworn and a disposition is known regarding the hearing.
