Dec 28, 2021 | 10:10 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — After a 4-2 loss to the Swift Current Broncos on Monday night, the two teams met again Tuesday evening, with the Canes hoping to redeem themselves. Unfortunately, it was another win for the Broncos, this time 5-2.

The first 20 minutes of play opened with roughing penalties at the 4:56 mark, sending the Bronco’s Owen Pickering and the Hurricanes’ Jett Jones to the box. By the midway point in the period the game was still scoreless, as the Canes’ Trevor Thurston added a penalty for slashing.

The first goal of the game came at 11:24, with the Broncos’ Carter Stebbings putting his team the board.

The last bit of action came at 12:56, as the Bronco’s Daylan Weigel gabbed a five-minute major for checking to the head. The incident resulted in a delay of game when the Canes’ Ty Nash skated to the bench and was seen removing a bloodied helmet.

The first period ended with a 1-0 lead for Swift Current.

The middle frame got off to a good start for the home team. At 2:10, Miguel Marques planted his first goal of the season to tie the game. From that point, the Canes contributed a trio of penalties to the game. The first came at 10:30, as Peter Repcik was tapped for Roughing.

The next goal slid off the stick of the Bronco’s Kayden Sadhra-Kang at 15:50, giving his team a 2-1 lead.

Two minutes later, Logan Barlage added the period’s second roughing penalty.

The last 15 seconds of the period produced a third goal for the Broncos’, courtesy of Connor Hvidston, and a game misconduct for the Canes’ Trevor Thurston.

Through 40-minutes of play, Swift Current lead 3-1.

The final frame began much the same as the second, as the Canes opened the scoring just two minutes in. Noah Boyko netted his eleventh goal of the season and cut the Broncos’ lead to 3-2.

Over the next eight minutes, the refs penalized a player from each team – Swift Current’s Caleb Wyrostok went to the box for slashing and the Canes Logan Wormald for tripping.

The remaining time was owned by Swift Current. At the 15:56 mark, Josh Davies upped the Bronco lead to 4-2 and with less than a minute remaining, Cole Nagy sent the puck through the pipes of an empty net, to give the Broncos a 5-2 win.

The loss for the Canes came in spite of the team outshooting the Broncos 41-25. Lethbridge also led with 20-minutes in penalties, to the Broncos nine.

Tuesday night’s game was the last for the Hurricanes this year. Their next game is January 1, 2022, when they travel to Calgary for a game against the Hitmen.
