LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police are investigating a shooting from Wednesday night sending one person to a hospital.

Police responded to a report of a shooting just after 10:30 pm on December 29, outside a residence in the 800 block of 7 A Avenue North.

The release notes that the investigators believe Wednesday’s incident was not random and the suspect and victim are known to one another. The incident began earlier that day when a verbal altercation between two individuals escalated into a physical one.

One of the individuals left the scene but returned later in the day and another altercation between the two ensued, resulting in the discharge of a firearm.

“A 49-year-old Lethbridge man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound and remains there in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries,” the LPS release reads.

The area was searched but a suspect was not located at the time, and the investigation was turned over to the Violent Crimes Unit.

At noon Thursday, two individuals were taken into custody for questioning after police stopped a vehicle.

The investigation is currently ongoing, more information will be given when presented.
