Nearly 5,000 new COVID cases in Alberta Thursday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

4,869 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 388,95. Of those, 39,897 cases are active while 345,762 people have recovered.

With 12,318 tests conducted over the past day, the positivity rate was 39.5 per cent.

Active infections increased by 2,701 since yesterday’s update, now at 39,897.

In the South Zone, 298 people tested positive with 137 in Lethbridge and 52 in Medicine Hat.

Active cases for the region went up by 250 and increased by 114 in Lethbridge.

Since Wednesday’s report, three people from the Calgary Zone died from COVID. To date, 3,336 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 498 patients are currently hospitalized including 64 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 150,360 cases, 19,261 active
    • 212 in hospital, 25 in ICU
    • 873 deaths (three new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 123,048 cases, 14,972 active
    • 136 in hospital, 25 in ICU
    • 1,338 deaths
  • North Zone – 48,675 cases, 1,523 active
    • 41 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 416 deaths
  • Central Zone – 41,036 cases, 1,993 active
    • 77 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 418 deaths
  • South Zone – 25,185 cases, 1,545 active
    • 22 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 291 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past 24 hours:

  • Lethbridge – 8,058 cases (137 new), 700 active, 63 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 3,014 cases (56 new), 301 active, eight deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,609 cases (52 new),206 active, 22 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,432 cases (30 new), 197 active, 33 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 5,063 cases (52 new), 395 active, 78 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,161 cases (15 new), 51 active, 24 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,113 cases (12 new), 86 active, 20 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,941 cases (22 new), 63 active, 40 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,348 cases (seven new), 36 active, 18 deaths
  • Cypress County – 917 cases (seven new), 38 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 832 cases (11 new), 30 active, four deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 733 cases (24 new), 66 active, 11 deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 609 cases (seven new), 31 active, seven deaths
  • County of Newell – 540 cases, 11 active, eight deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 359 cases (three new), 14 active, five deaths
