Alberta RCMP issue over 1,800 traffic tickets during holidays

EDMONTON, AB. — The Alberta RCMP issued 1,812 traffic tickets across the province between December 24, 2021, and January 3, 2022.

This results from RCMP officers carrying out enforcement initiatives in an effort to promote traffic safety during the holiday season.

Of the 1,812 tickets issued, 506 individuals received speeding tickets and 55 motorists were caught distracted driving.

Also among those ticketed, 125 impaired drivers were removed from the roads by provincial Immediate Roadside Sanctions. Authorities mention due to a variety of aggravating factors, of the 125 impaired drivers, 15 were also charged with Criminal Code Impaired Driving by Alcohol.

Police say another 1,251 motorists received tickets for traffic safety violations which include, but are not limited to, careless driving, driving with a prohibited or suspended license and moving offences.

In total, Alberta RCMP recorded 1,952 roadway offences compared to last year’s 2,578.
