Jan 10, 2022 | 6:58 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – YQL WinterFEST is coming to downtown Lethbridge this month.

The event, presented by Tourism Lethbridge, is scheduled to take place January 14-19. It will feature a free outdoor concert series, exhibitor stations for local winter experiences, snowshoeing in Galt Gardens and other fun activities.

Along with scheduled outdoor events at Rotary Square at CASA and Galt Gardens, YQL WinterFEST will also feature “anytime activities” during the week. These include ice sculpture selfie spots, a window painting winter walk and a scavenger hunt with “hundreds of dollars in prizes”.

To keep warm, attendees can enjoy some hot chocolate and compete in the Gourmet Hot Chocolate Contest. Residents can purchase a cup during the week.

Tourism Lethbridge noted that the city is the gateway to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in southern Alberta and is touting some other events to check out in the region this winter season.

Guests and residents alike can check out the Winter Light Festival at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden and in February, the PBR Canada Cup Series stops in Lethbridge. In March, the top men’s curlers in the country will compete at the ENMAX Centre in the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier.

Erin Crane, CEO of Tourism Lethbridge said, “tourism helps support and grow local businesses.”

“A vibrant downtown also acts as a magnet to attract visitors. Supporting and celebrating local business is what we do at Tourism Lethbridge.”

The YQL WinterFEST event is being made possible thanks to funding from the Heart of the City Re-Imagine grant and support from the Allied Arts Council, CASA and the Downtown BRZ.
