FORT MACLEOD, AB – The wind warning sweeping Southern Alberta is no joke.

Fort Macleod RCMP were called to an area of Highway 2 approximately halfway between Granum and Fort Macleod Tuesday afternoon.

They indicate a semi-tractor trailer that was travelling southbound had been blown off of the highway due to excessive winds.

The driver sustained minor injuries.

There was also a separate incident approximately two kilometres south of Granum where a semi was blown off of Highway 2. Details surrounding the collision are not known at this time.

“Fort Macleod RCMP advise that it is extremely windy between Granum and Fort Macleod with periods of reduced visibility due to blowing dust and encourage motorists to exercise care if travelling in the area,” reads a media release from Fort Macleod RCMP.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for much of Southern Alberta with strong westerly gusts up to 110 km/hr.
