COVID hospitalizations continue to rise in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

6,010 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 430,332. Of those, 62,733 cases are active while 364,224 people have recovered.

With 14,347 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 41.9 per cent.

In the South Zone, 306 people tested positive with 114 in Lethbridge and 78 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections in the region rose by 167 and by 57 in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, eight Albertans died from COVID with four in the Edmonton Zone, two in the Calgary Zone, and one each in the South and North Zones. To date, 3,375 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a resident of South Lethbridge.

Provincially, 786 patients are currently hospitalized including 79 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of 38 for hospitalizations overall but a decrease of three for ICU specifically.

  • Calgary Zone – 169,541 cases, 29,144 active
    • 324 in hospital, 32 in ICU
    • 890 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 138,589 cases, 22,353 active
    • 282 in hospital, 32 in ICU
    • 1,348 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 50,716 cases, 2,971 active
    • 68 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 419 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 43,524 cases, 3,691 active
    • 81 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 422 deaths
  • South Zone – 26,984 cases, 2,795 active
    • 31 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 296 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past 24 hours:

  • Lethbridge – 8,846 cases (114 new), 1,243 active, 66 deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 3,340 cases (48 new), 502 active, nine deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,860 cases (33 new), 403 active, 23 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 2,646 cases (33 new), 344 active, 34 deaths (one new)
  • Medicine Hat – 5,480 cases (78 new), 664 active, 78 deaths
  • Brooks – 2,280 cases (43 new), 156 active, 24 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 2,180 cases (six new), 116 active, 20 deaths
  • Cardston County – 2,064 cases (19 new), 165 active, 40 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,400 cases (seven new), 71 active, 18 deaths
  • Cypress County – 959 cases (eight new), 67 active, six deaths
