RCMP engagement meetings confirmed for Southern Alberta

Jan 13, 2022 | 10:47 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents of Southern Alberta will have several opportunities to hear from and engage with members of the RCMP.

Hosted by the National Police Federation (NPF), the KeepAlbertaRCMP Community Engagement Tour will make stops in small and mid-sized communized in the coming weeks.

The Alberta Government has been working on plans to dissolve the RCMP in Alberta and replace it with a new Alberta Provincial Police Service (PPS).

A report last fall found that the PPS would cost millions of dollars more, but could ultimately result in better service levels.

Brian Sauvé, President of the NPF, however, is not so sure that these would be the outcomes.

“We know from last summer’s mini-tour by Minister Kaycee Madu that not all the information shared by Government or feedback from participants was reflected in the summary, and Albertans deserve clear and thorough information and to be heard on this important decision.”

While plans for public consultations on the future of RCMP in Alberta were announced last week, the NPF has now confirmed several meeting dates for the region.

Anyone looking to attend will have to pre-register.
