3,837 COVID cases confirmed in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

3,837 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 459,497. Of those, 67,534 cases are active while 388,550 people have recovered.

With 10,005 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 38.4 per cent.

In the South Zone, 269 people tested positive.

Active infections remained relatively flat for the region.

The AHS data chart shows that the number of COVID-19 deaths for the North Zone decreased by three and fell by one in the South Zone, potentially indicating that they were reclassified.

There were three new deaths in the Calgary Zone and two in the Central Zone. To date, 3,413 Albertans have died from COVID.

Provincially, 1,101 patients are currently hospitalized including 108 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks increases of 12 and four respectively.

Data for the local breakdowns from AHS are not available at this time.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 185,124 cases, 32,795 active
    • 429 in hospital, 40 in ICU
    • 910 deaths (three new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 148,023 cases, 24,000 active
    • 467 in hospital, 43 in ICU
    • 1,363 deaths
  • North Zone – 51,852 cases, 2,965 active
    • 69 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 417 deaths (decreased by three)
  • Central Zone – 45,334 cases, 4,121 active
    • 95 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 425 deaths (two new)
  • South Zone – 28,222 cases, 3,028 active
    • 41 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 298 deaths (decreased by one)
