House fire claims one life in Shaughnessy

PICTURE BUTTE, AB – Firefighters continue to investigate a fatal house fire in Shaughnessy.

At approximately 4:36 pm on Sunday, January 23, Picture Butte Emergency Services was notified of a fire at a residence on the 100 block of 3 Street.

Crews entered the building and found a man inside. He was removed from the home and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

“Picture Butte Emergency Services would like to take the opportunity to remind the community of the importance of working smoke alarms. Smoke alarms should be tested monthly and batteries should be replaced every 6 months. Most smoke alarms should be replaced when they are 10 years old,” reads a media release from Picture Butte Emergency Services.
