COVID hospitalizations continue to rise in Alberta to 1,469

Jan 27, 2022 | 4:25 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

3,218 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 484,400. Of those, 44,301 cases are active while 436,581 people have recovered.

With 9,352 tests conducted over the past day, the positivity rate was 34.4 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 221 people tested positive with 82 in Lethbridge and 69 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections in the region went down by 54 and 69 in Lethbridge

Since yesterday’s update, 12 Albertans died from COVID with four in the Edmonton Zone, three in the Calgary Zone, two each in the Central and North Zones, and one in the South Zone. To date, 3,518 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a resident of Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 1,469 patients are currently hospitalized including 106 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of 51 for hospitalizations and a drop of three for ICU since our last report on Wednesday.
