AHS reports two COVID deaths in Lethbridge Friday

Jan 28, 2022 | 3:51 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

3,036 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 487,436. Of those, 41,300 cases are active while 442,605 people have recovered.

With 8,655 tests conducted over that time, the positivity rate was 35 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 257 people tested positive with 109 in Lethbridge and 41 in Medicine Hat.

Active infections for the region went up by 69 and in Lethbridge by 20

Since yesterday’s update, 14 Albertans died from COVID including four each in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones, three in the Central Zone, two in the South Zone, and one in the North Zone. To date, 3,531 people in the province have died as a result of the pandemic.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of North and South Lethbridge.

Provincially, 1,496 patients are currently hospitalized including 105 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of 27 for hospitalizations and a decrease of one for ICU.
