AHS reports four COVID deaths in South Zone including two in Lethbridge

Feb 1, 2022 | 5:18 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,980 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 495,953. Of those, 35,322 cases are active while 457,052 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 154 people tested positive with 60 in Lethbridge and 38 in Medicine Hat.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

Active infections went up by 108 in the South Zone but fell by 42 in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 14 Albertans died from COVID including five in the Calgary Zone, four in the South Zone, three in the Central Zones, and two in the Edmonton Zones. To date, 3,579 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of West and South Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and the Crowsnest Pass.

Provincially, 1,585 patients are currently hospitalized including 109 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of 69 and 10 respective since our last report on Monday.
