Hurricanes outscore Broncos 5-2

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — After losing two of three road trip match-ups last weekend the Lethbridge Hurricanes hosted the Swift Current Broncos Wednesday (Feb 2) night in a make-up game.

The home team got things off to a good start. Just 13 seconds after puck drop, Brayden Edwards nailed his first goal of the season, off an assist from Corson Hopwo and Joe Arntsen.

The next goal didn’t appear until 12 minutes later, off the stick of the Broncos Cole Nagy, who tied the score at one all.

The Hurricanes took the lead back three minutes later, when Yegor Klavdiev slid one through the pipes.

At the end of the first period, the teams had kept penalties to one minor each for tripping and the Canes were leading 2-1.

The lone goal in the next 20 minutes of play didn’t come until the 14-minute mark. Justin Hall lobbed a short-handed shot, for his 21st goal of the season.

While the period was short on points, it made up for action on the penalty side. Six minutes in, the Canes’ Ty Nash and the Broncos Grayson Burzynski both garnered roughing penalties. Three minutes later, Bronco Owen Pickering also pulled in a roughing penalty. The Canes’ Jett Jones and Ty Nash were also nabbed for kneeing and hooking. When the buzzer sounded, the Canes were ahead 3-1.

The final frame saw the Canes bump up their lead. Just 49-seconds in, Alex Thacker took an assist from Justin Hall and Ty Nash and within another three minutes, Ty Nash took an assist from Justin Hall. Within the first four minutes, the Canes were up 5-1.

The final goal of the game came in the final 30-seconds of play, as the Broncos’ Grayson Burzynski slid the puck past Canes goalie Jared Picklyk, taking the score to 5-2 for Lethbridge.

All three game Stars went to Hurricane players – Justin Hall, Ty Nash and Brayden Edwards, as Lethbridge outshot the Broncos 35-23. With 37-games under their skates, the Canes are at 16-18-2-1.

The next game for the Canes will be Friday night at the Enmax as they host the Regina Pats and on Saturday evening, the Canes head to Swift Current for another match against the Broncos.
