COVID hospitalizations in Alberta see small drop for first time in weeks

Feb 3, 2022 | 3:56 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

2,370 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 501,347. Of those, 33,879 cases are active while 463,860 people have recovered.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 234 people tested positive with 110 in Lethbridge.

Active infections decreased by 16 for the region but rose by 35 in the city.

Since yesterday’s update, 15 Albertans died from COVID including seven in the Edmonton Zone, four in the Calgary Zone, and two each in the Central and North Zones. To date, 3,608 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 1,584 patients are currently hospitalized including 112 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of 14 for hospitalizations but an increase of six for ICU compared to our most recent report on Wednesday.

Below are graphs showing how COVID-19 in Alberta has trended since the start of the pandemic, which can also be accessed with more detail here.
