Hurricanes drop 2-1 loss in Swift Current

SWIFT CURRENT, SASK : The canes were able to bring a halt to a five-game losing skid on Thursday night, with a 5-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos, and then added to the win column Friday, with a 5-4 win over Regina.

Saturday night found the Canes in Swift Current for another match against the Broncos. The only action during the first 20-minutes of play was a succession of penalties which lead to a scoreless period.

The second frame opened with a slashing penalty against the Broncos, just 32-seconds in. The first goal of the night came at the eleven-minute mark, off the stick of Cole Nagy, giving Swift Current a one nothing lead. The score held until the buzzer.

After 40-minutes of play, the teams were evenly matched in shots on goal, a reverse of action from Thursday night.

Just 19-seconds after puck drop on the final period, Connor Hvidston took the assist from Josh Davies and Josh Fluker, to slide the puck into the Canes’ net and give the Broncos and 2-0 lead.

The lone goal for the Hurricanes came with less than five-minutes remaining in the game. At 15:21, Justin Hall tipped in his 23rd goal of the season, assisted by Ty Nash and Joe Arntsen.

As the game came to a close, the Canes attacked the Bronco net, out-shooting their opponents 26-18. However, Swift Current took a 2-1 win.

The next game for the Hurricanes take the second game of their four-game road trip to Moose Jaw on Wednesday evening.
