LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Women’s Building Futures organization and Vestas are partnering with Lethbridge College bringing ‘Vestas Wind Turbine Technician Readiness’ program later this year.

The program will provide students with entry-level skills they need to begin a career as a wind turbine technician with Vestas.

“This program will bring great opportunity to women in Canada”

Jason Donkersgoed, director of Lethbridge College Extension says, “This is a natural and exciting extension of our work with both Women Building Futures and Vestas.”

He continues saying the program will help knock down barriers to entry for women interested in the trades.

Students take part in the Women Building Futures Journeywoman Start program at Lethbridge College in summer 2021.

The program integrates the expertise in Lethbridge College’s nationally recognized Wind Turbine Technician program, giving students hands-on training preparing them for their careers.

An information session will be held for anyone interested on February 23, in Lethbridge College’s Trades, Technologies and Innovation Facility.

The session will teach attendees details about the program, and what they’ll need to apply.

The Vestas Wind Turbine Technician Readiness program is a four-week program to prepare students beginning their careers.

Students will be able to apply for a Level 1 Service Technician position after the four week program and will begin three-week fully paid hands-on training with Vestas in Portland, Oregon.

Jess Thomson, Director Stakeholder and Government Relations for Women’s Building Futures says “This program will bring great opportunity to women in Canada who are looking to explore a career in an ever-growing industry with plenty of room for career growth.”

This is the second collaboration between Lethbridge College and Women Building Futures following the successful Journeywoman Start program during the summer of 2021.

Those interested in the information session must register before February 23 College website.
