Hurricanes edge the Warriors 2-1 in Moose Jaw

MOOSE JAW. SASK. — The second game of a four game eastern road trip for the Hurricanes end an eight-game winning streak for Moose Jaw Wednesday (Feb 9) night.

The first period produced three minor penalties and the only goal came in the final 80 seconds. The Warriors’ Daemon Hunt slapped the puck into the Canes net to give Moose Jaw a 1-0 lead just ahead of the buzzer.

The second frame got underway with a pair of powerplay opportunities for the Canes. Just 46-seconds after puck drop, a Moose Jaw’s Cordel Larson was sent off the ice for crossing checking. It provided a chance for Hurricane Yegor Klavdiev to add his tenth goal of the season, assisted by Joe Arntsen and Corson Hopwo and tied the game.

Three minutes later, the Canes were in a repeat situation. A Moose Jaw player was off to the sin bin for hooking, opening up another powerplay. Ty Nash took the assist from Yegor Klavdiev and Logan McCutcheon to lob the puck at the Warriors’ net and the Hurricanes were up 2-1.

The Canes maintained the 2-1 lead after 40-minutes of play and through the final goal starved period. Lethbridge did log three penalties in the last frame, including a double minor for high sticking against Chae Pauls.

Lethbridge was 2-and-4 on the powerplay but, were outshot 35-23 by the Warriors. After 40 games the Canes are 18-19 -2-1 in the standings.

The Hurricanes move on to Saskatoon for their next game on Friday (Feb 11) night.
