22 COVID deaths reported in Alberta Thursday, two in South Zone

Feb 10, 2022 | 4:23 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,363 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 512,765. Of those, 25,339 cases are active while 483,708 people have recovered.

With 4,986 tests conducted over the past day, the positivity rate was 27.3 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 140 people tested positive with 50 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the region fell by 111 and in the city by 43.

Since yesterday’s update, 22 Albertans died from COVID including seven in the Calgary Zone, five each in the Central and Edmonton Zones, three in the North Zone, and two in the South Zone. To date, 3,718 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of West Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 1,586 patients are currently hospitalized including 126 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks decreases of 29 and nine respectively compared to our most recent report on Wednesday.
