AHS reports 23 COVID deaths in Alberta Friday with three in South Zone

Feb 11, 2022 | 4:20 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,400 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 514,165. Of those, 24,154 cases are active while 486,270 people have recovered.

With 4,742 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 29.5 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 108 people tested positive including 37 in Lethbridge.

Active infections for the region went down by 126 and by 53 in the city.

Since yesterday’s update, 23 Albertans died from COVID including 10 in the Edmonton Zone, five in the Calgary Zone, three each in the South and North Zones, and two in the Central Zone. To date, 3,741 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of North Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Fort Macleod.

Provincially, 1,566 patients are currently hospitalized including 127 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks decreases of 20 and one respectively compared to our most recent report on Thursday.
