COVID hospitalizations fall this weekend in Alberta but deaths remain high

Feb 14, 2022 | 4:35 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past three days.

In that time, 2,657 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of 882. Of those, 20,865 cases are active while 492,171 people have recovered.

With 10,217 tests conducted over the weekend, the positivity rate was 26 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the last three days, 286 people tested positive in the South Zone, or 95 per day. That includes 134 in Lethbridge (45/day).

Active infections in the region went down by 191 and in the city by 47.

Since Friday’s update, 35 Albertans died from COVID including 15 in the Calgary Zone, eight in the Edmonton Zone, five each in the Central and North Zones, and two in the South Zone. To date, 3,776 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for residents of South Lethbridge and the County of Warner.

Provincially, 1,528 patients are currently hospitalized including 124 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks decreases of 38 for hospitalizations and three for ICU compared to our most recent report on Friday.
