AHS reports 18 COVID deaths in Alberta Thursday, none in South Zone

Feb 17, 2022 | 3:47 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

813 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 519,351. Of those, 16,551 cases are active while 498,978 people have recovered.

With 4,041 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 20.1 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 84 people tested positive with 30 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the region fell by 140 and by 53 in the city.

Since yesterday’s update, 18 Albertans died from COVID with seven in the Calgary Zone, five in the Central Zone, four in the Edmonton Zone, and two in the North Zone. To date, 3,822 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 1,491 patients are currently hospitalized including 116 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks decreases of nine and four respectively compared to our most recent report on Wednesday.
